What does novelty have to do with fun

How often are you switching things up in your life? When was the last time you interrupted your own pattern for the better? I mean, injected some fun into meal prepping, or picking up the kids from school, or date night with your significant other? I get it. Life is constantly moving, changing and shifting, and when we get trapped in our “routine,” is when we need more variety in our life. It’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of life, AND we also o get to choose how we show up each and every moment.

If you’re familiar with Tony Robbins and the six (6) human needs, you understand the importance of switching things up a bit. For your reference, the 6 human needs are:

  • Certainty

  • Uncertainty/Variety

  • Significance

  • Love/Connection

  • Growth

  • Contribution

We need all of these to function as humans, and there can be varying differences in priority, weight and situation or circumstance for all of us. That being said, where in your life are you feeling stuck or trapped? And what needs are being met and keeping you in this place? Are you staying in a place or situation where you have certainty? Are you settling for connection, when what you’re really after is love? It can be a myriad of things. Take stock of where you are now, and what needs are being met.

We all have an inner child within us, that reminds us that it’s okay to play in life. Life is meant to be fun, and if we take ourselves too seriously, we just might miss it! So, how can you create a little more fun in your world? Throw on your dog ears, and get to work!

The next time you’re in the kitchen slicing some veggies, throw on some music (and maybe a boa or dog ears), and inject some fun in life. Trust me, your partner, kids, and family will thank you!
